We recently carried out an independent survey of 2,000 individuals who fit within the primary ‘at risk’ population for contracting mesothelioma and were shocked to discover that almost 70% could not name a single symptom of the disease.
Given that secondary asbestos exposure is becoming an increasingly common cause of mesothelioma through fibres having been brought into the home by those working with the material, it is absolutely vital that those who may have come in contact with it at any stage are fully aware as to the symptoms and know what to watch out for.
As with all cancers, the earlier it is diagnosed, the better the prognosis and we strongly advise that you visit your GP if you have any concerns at all about any of the symptoms of the disease. Of course, as with many conditions, the majority of the symptoms cross over with those of other diseases and just because you may display one or more of the symptoms doesn’t mean you’ll be diagnosed.
